The fact is that there are only two ways to bring about permanent change in our behaviors.
One way is a sudden intense emotional impact. Often this is caused by a major negative event that affect us in a very personal way such as suffering from some kind of severe mental or physical trauma.
The second way, which is a method we can directly control, is to undergo consistent intervals of repetition over time. This can take various forms including reading the same book, writing the same affirmations, or listening to the same recording over and over on a daily basis.
The process is simple but it takes discipline to consistently immerse ourselves in the thoughts we want to implant into the subconscious mind.
A good analogy here is in learning a language. As small children we learn our native language through constant daily exposure. Because we don’t have a fully developed intellect at that age we’re not able to say that we can’t or don’t want to learn the language. It’s simply that we hear it spoken to us constantly and we learn the language without even knowing the rules of grammar or syntax.
If we can learn something as complex as a spoken language, we are certainly capable of adopting new ideas into our subconscious mind. As adults the challenge is the fixed mindset that we have allowed to take root over the years. The paradigm that was developed in our formative years will stay implanted forever unless we take deliberate steps to change it.
We just have to articulate the results we really want and reprogram our minds by a procedure that corresponds to the laws that govern our human nature.
Be very selective about what input you are allowing into your consciousness. What books and magazines do you read? What do you watch on television? What are the conversations like at work or at home? It’s really important to begin to notice these things.
The bottom line is - don’t get emotionally involved in the negative input. Hold on with utmost tenacity the clear image of what you want to achieve in life. Charge that vision with emotion. Keep doing this everyday without fail and you will get there.
